The nationalisation of Gedneral Motors today (see attachment below) was an inevitability even before the American taxpayer bailed it out late last year and again this year. It was bloated, its workers were overpaid and it lost money on every car it made.
The latest guise of this 100 year old beast isn't going to work either. To remove 2000 odd dealerships maybe awful for workers it really need to cut another 3-4000 on top of that to become lean and mean and survive.
We shouldn't forget that Governments don't save businesses either, they kill them. I remember British Leyland being taken over in the 1970s. It no longer exists and neither will GM in a few years, without continual taxpayer handouts.
